#### Objective:
Students will be able to understand basic characteristics and differences between animals and plants. They will identify common animals and plants and understand their needs for living.
#### Materials Needed:
1. Picture books about animals and plants
2. Chart paper
3. Markers/crayons
4. Scissors
5. Glue
6. Construction paper
7. Animal and plant cutouts
8. A real plant (optional)
9. Plastic animals and plants (optional)

### Lesson Structure:
#### 1. Introduction (10 minutes)
- **Greeting and Warm-Up:**
- Start with a cheerful greeting to make the students feel comfortable.
- Sing an interactive song about animals and plants to grab students' attention. Example: "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" or “The Green Grass Grows All Around.”
#### 2. Read-Aloud (15 minutes)
- **Story Time:**
- Read a picture book about animals and plants. Suggestions include "The Tiny Seed" by Eric Carle or "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle.
- After the story, prompt a short discussion with questions like:
- “What animals did you see in the book?”
- “What plants were in the story?”
#### 3. Circle Time Discussion (10 minutes)
- **Discussion on Characteristics:**
- Use chart paper to create two lists: Animals and Plants.
- Discuss the characteristics of each:
- **Animals:** Have legs/wings/fins, move, need food/water.
- **Plants:** Have roots/stems/leaves, stay in one place, need sunlight/water/soil.
- Show real or plastic examples while explaining.
#### 4. Activity: Sorting Game (15 minutes)
- **Interactive Learning:**
- Give each student cutouts of various animals and plants.
- On the board or large paper, create two zones labeled "Animals" and "Plants."
- Ask students to come up and place their cutouts in the correct zone.
- Discuss each selection briefly to reinforce learning.
#### 5. Arts & Crafts (20 minutes)
- **Creating Animal and Plant Collages:**
- Provide construction paper, glue, and magazines with pictures of animals and plants.
- Have students cut out and glue pictures to create their own animal or plant collage.
- Encourage them to be creative and label their creations if they can.
#### 6. Planting Activity (Optional) (10 minutes)
- **Hands-On Experience:**
- If possible, have a small planting activity where each student can plant a seed in a cup of soil.
- Discuss the needs of the plant (sunlight, water) and how they can care for it.
#### 7. Review & Closing (10 minutes)
- **Recap:**
- Review the main points about animals and plants.

- Sing another song or rhyme to end the lesson on a fun note.
- Give them a simple worksheet to color, featuring an animal and a plant for extra practice at home.
