Lesson summary

This lesson is vital for our young learners' well-being. In Ghana, children love to play freely both at home and at school. However, their environments contain many potential dangers they may not recognise, such as busy roads with 'okadas' and 'tro-tros', open fires for cooking (coal pots), or open drains. This lesson will empower them with the basic knowledge to identify safe play areas, helping them to avoid common accidents and injuries. By understanding 'safe' and 'unsafe', they begin to develop personal responsibility for their own safety.

Lesson notes

This lesson revolves around two simple but crucial ideas: Safe Places and Unsafe Places.

Concept 1: What is a SAFE Place to Play?

A safe place is an area where we can play freely without a high risk of getting hurt. It is a place where we feel secure and protected.

Explanation for Learners: "A safe place is a good place to play! It is a happy place where you won't fall down and cry, get burned, or be hit by a car. Think of a place with lots of space, no sharp things, and where a grown-up like Mummy, Daddy, or Teacher can see you."
