Lesson summary

This lesson introduces learners to the exciting world of presentation software. A presentation is a way to share ideas and information with an audience using a computer. It is like telling a story with a series of pages called "slides," which can have words, pictures, and even sounds. In Ghana, this skill is very useful. For example, you can create a presentation for your Social Studies project about the "Homowo festival," or explain a science concept like "Parts of a Flower" to your classmates. Learning to create presentations helps us to organise our thoughts and share them clearly with others.

Lesson notes

A. What is a Presentation? A presentation is a way of showing information to people. Instead of just talking, you use a computer to show pages with text and pictures to help explain your topic better. Each page in a presentation is called a slide.

B. What is Presentation Software? This is the computer application or program we use to create presentations. The most common one is Microsoft PowerPoint. Others include Google Slides and WPS Presentation. We will use Microsoft PowerPoint in our examples today.

C. The PowerPoint Window (Our Workspace) When you open PowerPoint, you see a workspace with different parts. Let's learn the most important ones: Ribbon: This is the big bar at the top with all the buttons and tools, organised into tabs like 'File', 'Home', and 'Insert'. Think of it as your toolbox. Slide Pane: This is the large, main area in the middle where you see and work on your current slide. Placeholder: These are the dotted boxes on a slide that say "Click to add title" or "Click to add text". They show you where you can type your information or add pictures. Thumbnails Pane: A small column on the left side that shows you small pictures (thumbnails) of all the slides in your presentation. This helps you see all your slides at once and move between them.
