This week's revision focuses on core Grade 10 EGD concepts: Orthographic Projection, Isometric and Oblique Drawings, Geometric Constructions, Standard Symbols and Conventions, and Surface Development. 2.
1. Orthographic Projection: Orthographic projection is a method of representing a 3D object using 2D views. These views show the object as seen from different viewpoints (front, top, and side). The key is that the lines of sight are perpendicular to the projection plane. South Africa uses both First Angle and Third Angle projection.
First Angle Projection: The object is placed behind the projection plane. The front view is above the top view, and the right-side view is to the left of the front view. Imagine placing the object behind a screen and drawing its shadow on the screen. This is still used in some industries and older drawings, so it's important to recognize.
Third Angle Projection: The object is placed in front of the projection plane. The front view is below the top view, and the right-side view is to the right of the front view. Imagine placing the object between you and a screen and drawing its shadow on the screen. This is the most common projection system.
