This week's focus is on consolidating key concepts covered in previous weeks, ensuring a strong foundation for upcoming topics and the end-of-term assessments. Mastering these foundational skills is crucial not only for academic success in mathematics but also for problem-solving in everyday life. Many financial decisions, resource allocation problems, and logical reasoning scenarios rely on the mathematical principles we will revise this week. Why is this important for South African learners?
2.1 Linear Equations and Inequalities: A linear equation is an equation in which the highest power of the variable is
1. Solving a linear equation means finding the value of the variable that makes the equation true. Inequalities are similar to equations, but instead of an equals sign (=), they use symbols like , ≤, or ≥.
Key Principles: The goal is to isolate the variable on one side of the equation or inequality. Perform the same operation on both sides to maintain equality or inequality. When multiplying or dividing an inequality by a negative number, reverse the inequality sign.
