Lesson notes

2.1 Simple Interest Simple interest is a straightforward way of calculating interest earned or paid on a principal amount. It's calculated only on the principal amount, not on any accumulated interest.

Formula: `Simple Interest (SI) = P r * t` Where: `P` = Principal amount (the initial amount of money) `r` = Interest rate (expressed as a decimal, e.g., 8% = 0.08) `t` = Time period (in years) Total Amount (A) after `t` years: `A = P + SI` or `A = P(1 + rt)` Why it matters: Understanding simple interest helps you calculate the returns on savings accounts, fixed deposits, and the cost of short-term loans.

How it works: Simple interest is easy to calculate and understand, making it a good starting point for learning about interest calculations.

However, in the real world, compound interest is more common.
