Lesson summary

This lesson introduces the scientific study of human movement, known as Kinesiology. For us in Ghana, understanding *why* and *how* our bodies move is not just for top athletes like the Black Stars or our Olympic medalists. It is essential for everyone, from the farmer in the field working to avoid back pain, to the market trader carrying goods, to students like yourselves who want to improve in sports, dance, or simply stay healthy. By understanding the science behind movement, we can perform better, prevent injuries, and appreciate the incredible capabilities of the human body.

(30 mins) Main Content Delivery What is Kinesiology?

Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement, performance, and function. The word comes from two Greek words: 'kinesis' (meaning movement) and '-logia' (meaning study of). It’s not just about sports; it’s about understanding every single movement we make, from walking to lifting a bucket of water.

To understand movement fully, Kinesiology is broken down into several key components or sub-disciplines.
