Lesson notes

This section breaks down the core ideas you need to understand. What is a "Career Pathway"?

A career pathway is not just a single job. It is the entire journey of education, training, practical experience, and professional development that leads to a successful career in a particular field. For Physical Education, this means starting from your interest in SHS and mapping out the steps to become, for example, a coach, a sports administrator, or a fitness expert. Major Career Pathways in Physical Education

Let's explore some of the major pathways. For each, we will discuss the role and the professional preparation needed.

Pathway 1: Education and Teaching Role: Physical Education Teacher (Basic School, JHS, SHS, or Tertiary) What they do: Plan and deliver PE lessons, assess student performance, manage school sports teams, and promote a culture of health and wellness within the school community. Professional Preparation in Ghana: SHS Foundation: Excel in Elective PE, Biology, and English. Tertiary Education: Obtain a Bachelor's degree. The most direct routes in Ghana are: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from the University of Cape Coast (UCC). Licensing: After your degree, you must register with the National Teaching Council (NTC) and pass the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) to be certified as a professional teacher. Continuous Professional Development (CPD): Attend workshops and courses to update your knowledge and skills.
