This lesson introduces learners to the concept of recreational activities and their importance for maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. In Ghana, the life of an SHS student is often demanding, filled with academic work ("chew and pour"), chores, and social pressures. Recreation is not just "play"; it is a vital tool for managing stress, improving physical and mental health, and building social connections. This lesson moves beyond simply knowing about recreation to actively planning for it.
Part 1: What are Recreational Activities?
Definition: Recreational activities are actions or experiences that people engage in during their leisure time for enjoyment, relaxation, and personal satisfaction. The key word is choice – you do them because you *want* to, not because you are forced to. Key Characteristics: Done during free time (e.g., after school, weekends, holidays). Voluntary and enjoyable. Helps to refresh the mind and body. Can be done alone or with others.
