This lesson introduces learners to the practical skill of building a professional Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resumé, specifically tailored to showcase their strengths, experiences, and passion within the field of Physical Education. In Ghana today, the sports, health, and wellness industry is growing, offering exciting careers beyond just being a professional athlete. A well-crafted CV is the first step in accessing these opportunities, whether it's for university admissions, scholarships, or entry-level jobs. This lesson will demystify the process and empower learners to present themselves effectively on paper and digitally.
This section breaks down the core ideas learners need to understand to build their CV. A. What are Modern Careers in Physical Education?
Physical Education is not just about teaching sports in school. It is a gateway to many professional fields. It’s important to think beyond the traditional roles. Inquiry-Based Activity (Starter): In pairs, learners will use their phones or school ICT lab to search for "careers in sports and physical education in Ghana." They should list as many as they can find in 5 minutes.
Key Career Areas with Ghanaian Examples: Sports Coaching and Instruction: Working with athletes to improve performance. *Example:* A coach for a Ghana Premier League team like Asante Kotoko, a national athletics coach, or a tennis coach at the Accra Sports Stadium. Health and Fitness: Helping people achieve their health goals. *Example:* A Personal Trainer at a gym like "Balance Gym" in Accra, a Corporate Wellness Coordinator for a company like MTN Ghana. Sports Management and Administration: The business and organisational side of sports. *Example:* An administrator at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), a manager of a sports facility, or an event organiser for the Millennium Marathon. Sports Media and Journalism: Reporting and commentating on sports. *Example:* A sports journalist for Joy Sports or GTV Sports+, a sports photographer, or a social media manager for a sports team. Sports Science and Medicine: Using scientific principles to support athletes. *Example:* A Physiotherapist for the Black Stars, a Sports Nutritionist advising athletes, or a Biomechanist at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Sports Science department. Education: Teaching the next generation. *Example:* A PE teacher in a GES school, a lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). B. What is a Curriculum Vitae (CV)?
A Curriculum Vitae (Latin for "course of life") is a formal document that provides a summary of your qualifications, skills, experiences, and education. Think of it this way: A CV is your personal advertisement. Its job is to make a potential employer, university admissions officer, or scholarship committee interested enough to want to meet you for an interview. For a student, it is a record of your potential. It shows what you have done and what you are capable of doing. C. The Essential Sections of a Student CV
