Lesson summary

Many students in Ghana see Physical Education simply as playing sports on the field. However, PE is a gateway to a wide range of respected and rewarding careers, from coaching the Black Stars to managing a modern gym in Accra, or becoming a sports journalist for Joy Sports. To access these opportunities, you need to present yourself professionally. One of the most important tools for this is a Curriculum Vitae, or CV. This lesson will demystify the CV, showing you how to capture your unique PE skills and experiences on paper to create a powerful first impression and open doors to your future career in the world of sports and health.

Lesson notes

A. What is a Curriculum Vitae (CV)?

A Curriculum Vitae (Latin for "course of life") is a detailed document that summarises your academic background, skills, achievements, and work experience. Think of it as your personal marketing document. Its main purpose is to convince an employer, a university, or a scholarship committee to invite you for an interview or consider you for an opportunity.

In many places, including Ghana, the terms CV and Resume are used interchangeably. However, a CV is often more detailed and can be longer than one page, while a resume is typically a concise, one-page summary. For your stage, a powerful one-page CV is perfect.

Why is it crucial in PE? A PE career is not just about what you can do on the field; it's also about leadership, discipline, teamwork, and knowledge. A CV helps you prove this. A coach needs to show they have leadership skills and experience. A gym instructor needs to demonstrate knowledge of fitness and good communication. A sports administrator needs to prove they are organised and responsible.
