Lesson summary

Welcome, students! Today, we are exploring the exciting connection between the farms in our communities and the big factories in our cities. Have you ever wondered what happens to the cocoa beans from a farm in the Ashanti Region after they are harvested? Or what we can do with the peels from cassava after making gari? This lesson, "Agriculture and Industry," will answer these questions. We will see how agriculture is not just about growing food to eat, but it is also the engine that powers many of our most important industries in Ghana.

Lesson notes

This lesson focuses on the crucial link between what we grow on our farms and what our factories produce. Let's break down the key ideas.

A. What is an Agro-Based Industry?

An agro-based industry is any industry that uses agricultural products (from crops, livestock, fishery, or forestry) as its primary raw material. Example in Ghana: A company like *Blue Skies* in the Eastern Region that processes pineapples and mangoes into fruit juices and cut-fruits is a perfect example of an agro-based industry. A local gari processing centre is also an agro-based industry.

B. Agricultural Raw Materials from Crop Production
