This lesson introduces two powerful mathematical concepts: indices and logarithms. Indices provide a shorthand way to write and work with repeated multiplication. This is incredibly useful in many areas of life in Ghana and beyond – from calculating compound interest on a mobile money savings pot (like MTN's Y'ello Save) or a bank loan, to understanding population growth in our communities, and even how digital memory is measured in the phones we use every day. Logarithms are the "opposite" or inverse of indices, helping us to solve for unknown powers. Mastering these concepts is fundamental for further studies in mathematics, science, engineering, and finance.

What is an Index?
An index (plural: indices) is a number that tells us how many times to multiply a base number by itself.
In the expression aⁿ: a is the base (the number being multiplied). n is the index, also called the exponent or power.
