Farming is one of the most important activities in Ghana because it provides food, jobs, and raw materials for industries (e.g., cocoa for export, maize for poultry feed, cotton for textiles). In our communities, people farm in different ways depending on land size, rainfall, money, labour, and market demand. Understanding farming systems helps learners to identify what crops and animals are suitable for different systems and to make better decisions about food production and environmental protection.
2.1 Meaning of Farming System A farming system is the way a farmer organises: Land (size, use, rotation, fallow, irrigation), Crops (type, number of crops, arrangement), Animals (type, number, housing), Labour and tools (manual, animal traction, machines), Inputs (seed, fertiliser, pesticides), to produce food and other farm products.
In simple terms: It is the method or style of farming used.
