In daily life in Ghana, we see motion everywhere: a trotro starting from a station, a football being kicked, a wheelbarrow being pushed at the market, or a bicycle slowing down on a rough road. All these happen because of forces. Sometimes forces are balanced (no change in motion), and sometimes they are unbalanced (they cause a change in motion). Understanding unbalanced forces helps learners explain road safety (seat belts), sports performance, and how machines and tools work.
2.1 Meaning of Force A force is a push or pull that can: start motion, stop motion, change speed (speed up or slow down), change direction, change shape (e.g., squeezing a sponge).
Unit of force: newton (N)
Examples in Ghanaian context Pushing a desk in class. Pulling a bucket from a well. Kicking a football. Braking a bicycle.
2.2 Inertia (Key Exemplar) Inertia is the tendency of a body to resist any change in its state of rest or motion.
