Lesson summary

Organised sports and physical activity participation means taking part in planned physical activities with rules, roles, safety measures and fair play—such as school sports, inter-house competitions, community games, and traditional activities like traditional wrestling. In Ghana, organised sports help learners build fitness, confidence, discipline, teamwork and leadership. They also promote inclusion (girls and boys, learners with disabilities, different body sizes and abilities) when we adapt rules and equipment.

Lesson notes

A. What is Organised Sports and Physical Activity Participation? Organised sports are structured physical activities with: Rules (what is allowed/not allowed) Roles (players, referee, coach, timekeeper) Safety measures (warm-up, safe space, no dangerous holds) Fair play (respect, honesty, inclusion)

Physical activity participation means being actively involved—joining practice, trying skills, supporting teammates, and improving over time.

Example (Ghanaian context): A JHS inter-house sports day: learners train, follow rules, compete, and record results. A community festival where traditional wrestling is done with agreed rules and elders/referees.

B. Movement Concepts (How we move) Movement concepts help learners understand *how to move well*. 1) Space (Where you move) Personal space: your own area without touching others. General space: shared area (field/court). Direction: forward, backward, sideways. Levels: low (crouch), medium, high (standing tall). Pathways: straight, curved, zigzag.
