This lesson introduces learners to the fascinating world of patterns and relations. Patterns are all around us in Ghana – in the designs of our Kente and smock fabrics, in the rhythms of Adowa music, in the way houses are arranged in a compound, and even in how we budget our pocket money. Understanding patterns helps us to predict what will happen next, make smart decisions, and solve problems. Today, we will learn how to spot the 'rule' in a pattern and use it to continue the pattern, both with numbers, shapes, and simple algebraic symbols.
A. What is a Pattern?
A pattern is a set of numbers, shapes, or objects that are arranged following a specific, predictable rule.
Rule (or Relation): The rule is the instruction that tells us how to get from one term to the next. B. Extending Relations Presented *Without* Symbols
This involves looking at a sequence of numbers or shapes and figuring out the rule to find the next terms.
