SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
• Understand the concept of time.
• Identify the parts of a clock.
• Tell time to the hour and half hour.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS:

  • Clock charts, toy clocks, flashcards, real wall clocks, paper plate clocks.

STEP 1: INTRODUCTION

- Ask pupils if they know what time is and why it is important. - Show them a clock and discuss its purpose.

- Pupils respond to questions and observe the clock.

STEP 2: EXPLANATION

- Explain that time helps us know when to do things (wake up, eat, go to school). - Introduce the parts of the clock: face, numbers, hour hand, minute hand.

- Pupils listen and identify parts of the clock.

STEP 3: DEMONSTRATION

- Use a toy clock to show how the hands move. Show what it looks like when it is “o’clock”.

- Pupils watch and follow the demonstration.

STEP 4: INTERACTIVE SESSION

- Ask pupils to move the hands on paper clocks to show different times (e.g., 7 o’clock, 12 o’clock).

- Pupils practice moving hands on their toy or paper clocks.

STEP 5: NOTE TAKING

- Write the word “Time” and label parts of the clock on the board.

- Pupils copy the word and clock parts into their notebooks.

 

EVALUATION:

  1. What is the short hand of the clock called?
  2. What does the long hand show?

 

CLASSWORK:

  • Pupils label parts of the clock on worksheets and show times to the hour using toy clocks.

 

CONCLUSION:

  • Teacher praises pupils for participation and asks them to look at the time they eat or sleep at home.

- Pupils listen and observe the teacher.

STEP 3: DEMONSTRATION

- Use a toy clock to show times like “half past 2”, “half past 6”.

- Pupils watch and respond to questions during the demonstration.

STEP 4: INTERACTIVE SESSION

- Allow pupils to set their clocks to “half past” times with teacher’s guidance.

- Pupils set clocks to correct half past times and show their work.

STEP 5: NOTE TAKING

- Write examples of “o’clock” and “half past” on the board.

- Pupils copy the examples into their notebooks.

 

EVALUATION:

  1. Show 3 o’clock on your toy clock.
  2. Show half past 4.
