SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  • Identify and recognize various coins and notes.
  • Understand the value of different Nigerian coins and notes (25k, 50k, ₦1, ₦2, ₦5, ₦10, ₦20, ₦50, ₦100, ₦500, ₦1000).

 

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES:

  • Explanation, demonstration, and interactive learning.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS:

  • Nigerian coins and notes (25k, 50k, ₦1, ₦2, ₦5, ₦10, ₦20, ₦50, ₦100, ₦500, ₦1000).
  • Flashcards with pictures of coins and notes.

PERIOD 1 and 2:

STEP 1: INTRODUCTION

- Greet the class and introduce the topic: "Money". - Display different coins and notes to the class.

- Respond to the teacher’s greeting and observe the displayed coins and notes.

STEP 2: EXPLANATION

- Explain the different types of coins and notes, emphasizing their values. - Show the pupils each coin and note and say its value aloud.

- Listen and watch the demonstration of each coin and note, repeating the values after the teacher.

STEP 3: INTERACTIVE SESSION

- Ask pupils to name the coins and notes on display. - Have pupils identify coins and notes from the displayed set.

- Pupils take turns identifying coins and notes.

STEP 4: NOTE TAKING

- Write the names and values of coins and notes on the board for the pupils to copy.

- Copy the names and values of coins and notes into their notebooks.

 

EVALUATION:

  1. What is the value of the ₦2 coin?
  2. Identify the ₦100 note.

CLASSWORK:

  • Ask pupils to draw and label one coin and one note from the set provided.

CONCLUSION:

  • Teacher praises pupils for their participation. - Remind pupils to practice identifying coins and notes at home.

STEP 1: INTRODUCTION

- Recap the previous lesson by reviewing the coins and notes displayed.

- Respond to the recap by repeating the values of the coins and notes.

STEP 2: EXPLANATION

- Introduce a few additional notes or coins that were not covered in the first period.

- Observe and listen to the teacher explain the new coins and notes.

STEP 3: DEMONSTRATION

- Demonstrate how to combine coins to make up a total value. Example: ₦1 + ₦2 = ₦3.

- Watch the demonstration of combining coins to form a total.

STEP 4: NOTE TAKING

- Ask pupils to copy the example from the board: "₦2 + ₦1 = ₦3".

- Copy the example and solve similar problems in their notebooks.

 

EVALUATION:

  1. What is ₦1 + ₦5?
  2. How much is ₦10 + ₦50?

CLASSWORK:

  • Solve a few problems involving adding coins in their notebooks (e.g., ₦5 + ₦10 = ₦15).

CONCLUSION:

Teacher praises pupils for their effort and reminds them to practice adding coins and notes. - Encourage pupils to practice with family members at home.
