SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Group similar objects together.
  2. Sort objects based on number (1 to 5).
  3. Classify objects using shape and colour.

Displays assorted buttons and asks pupils to observe.

STEP 2 – EXPLANATION

Explains sorting by number, shape, and colour.

STEP 3 - INTERACTIVE SESSION

Works with pupils to sort objects into groups of 1-5.

Pupils help sort and classify.

STEP 4 - NOTE TAKING

Draws 3 examples of sorted groups on board. Pupils copy.

Pupils draw in notebooks.

NOTE: Encourage use of local materials if available.

EVALUATION:

  1. Group objects based on colour.
  2. How many red tops are in this tray?
  3. Sort 5 objects into groups.

CLASSWORK: As in evaluation
CONCLUSION: The teacher commends the pupils positively.

Pupils perform task in pairs.

STEP 4 - NOTE TAKING

Asks pupils to draw and label classified items.

Pupils draw in books.

NOTE: Support slow learners with peer help.

EVALUATION:

  1. Sort 4 coloured buttons into same colour.
  2. Which group has 3 objects?
  3. Identify groups of 2 and 4 from board.

CLASS ACTIVITY: Group work on classification challenge.
