Previous knowledge: Pupils are familiar with meal service.

Objective: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. Know the habits we must exhibit while eating
2. Know how to receive and entertain guests
3. Know different table laying techniques

Content

1. Pray before eating
2. Wash your hands properly before you eat
3. Do not eat too fast
4. Close your mouth while chewing food
5. Do not stretch your hands over other people’s food to take anything.
6. Avoid putting too much food in your mouth at a time
7. Avoid talking with food in your mouth
8. Always push the chair back after eating.

How to receive and entertain guests

This is the process of receiving or welcoming people into the home and giving them foods and drinks etc. The people who entertains the guests is the HOSTESS (female) male is the HOST. The person who is received is the GUEST.

1. When they knock, meet them at the door
2. Welcome them warmly and cheerfully
3. Show them a place to sit
4. Introduce them to members of your family
5. Show your guests the functional room e.g the toilet
6. Serve your guest snacks, drinks or the main meal

Table laying techniques

This is the process of setting a table. It means the arrangement of table wear or table appointments. The following are the techniques of table laying:

1. Know the number of people to be served.
2. Make the table design simple and natural. Aim at the comfort and enjoyment of your guests.
3. The table setting should complement the meal.
4. The dinning room, table linen, must be properly cleaned.
5. The piece of cutlery should be placed fairly close together.

Step I: Teacher revises previous lesson with pupils

Step II: Teacher introduces and explain new topic to pupils

Step III: Pupils are allowed to ask questions

Step IV: Teacher writes note on the boards for pupils

Evaluation:

1. Mention five good eating habits.
2. Mention the ways in which you can receive and entertain guest.
3. List four items that are important for table services.

Conclusion: Teacher moves round for inspection, marking and correction of notes where necessary.
