The dyeing process before proceeding to mix the components together, it is important to bear in mind that all the main components (dye, hydrogen sulphate and caustic soda) are dangerous and not fit for human consumption. Again, dye spillage must be thoroughly washed off with water. Also, all utensils used must be properly and thoroughly washed. Now, study the following stages of dyeing:
Stage 1
Measure hydrogen sulphate and caustic soda in the ratio of 2:1 respectively, depending on the quantity of the fabric to be dyed. The quantity of dye to be used is for the artist to decide, depending on the colour intensity that he or she wants to achieve. The hydrogen sulphate, caustic soda and dye must be measured into an empty and dry plastic bowl.
Stage 2
Add hot water gradually into the chemical mixture in the bowl and stir properly to ensure that everything dissolves.
Stage 3
Dip the fabric into the dye mixture solution and allow it to absorb the dye for about 20 minutes. Care must be taken to ensure that every part of the fabric absorbs the dye evenly.
Stage 4
Remove the fabric and allow the excess dye to drip off. Rinse the dyed fabric in clean water and spread to dry under a shade.
