Paul’s Identity

Objective: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;

  1. Mention Paul’s identity, nationality and religion
  2. Narrate the events of his early life, parentage education and anti – Christian activities.

    Content:

Paul’s Identity

In the beginning, a man was called Saul but later change his name to Paul. He was born by Jewish parents in the Greek speaking city called Tarsus in the region of Cilicia (Acts 22:3) Paul was a Hebrew by birth. Hebrew were children of Abraham he was also a Roman because his parents lived in the Roman empire and bought the right of citizenship. Paul was born in Judaism which was the religion of his parents. He later became a Christian.

Paul’s Education

Paul’s parents did not want to receive education of the Greeks. They wanted him to be a lawyer and a teacher of the Hebrew law. They sent him to Jerusalem where he was educated under Gamliel. In the course of his study he became a member of the religious section called “Pharisees” like his teacher (Acts23:6)

Paul fought the Christians

Many Jews did not like the Christian because they were teaching another way of life different from Judaism. They did bad things to Christians. They beat them up and put them in prison. One of the Jews who troubled the Christians was Paul.

Stephen’s Death

Stephen was one of the Christian hated by the Jews. They were angry with him when he said that by killing Jesus they were against the Holy Spirit. They took him out of the city and stoned him to death. Their clothes were laid at Paul’s feet who was known as Saul as he stood watching.
