This week, we delve into the exciting world of Geometry, specifically focusing on angles, triangles, and quadrilaterals. Geometry isn't just about shapes; it's about understanding the world around us. From the tiled patterns in your kitchen to the shape of your school building, geometry is everywhere! Knowing about angles, triangles, and quadrilaterals helps us understand structural stability in buildings, design patterns, and even navigate using maps. Imagine trying to build a shack without knowing the properties of a triangle to support the roof, or designing a soccer field without understanding rectangles!
2. 1. Angles An angle is formed when two rays (or lines) meet at a common endpoint called the vertex. We measure angles in degrees (°).
Acute Angle: An angle that measures greater than 0° but less than 90°. Think of it as a "cute" little angle.
Right Angle: An angle that measures exactly 90°. We often represent it with a small square at the vertex. Think of the corner of a book.
Obtuse Angle: An angle that measures greater than 90° but less than 180°. It's "obtuse" because it's bigger than a right angle.
Straight Angle: An angle that measures exactly 180°. It forms a straight line.
Reflex Angle: An angle that measures greater than 180° but less than 360°. It's like going "beyond" a straight angle.
Revolution (Full Angle): An angle that measures exactly 360°. It's a complete circle.
