This week is crucial for consolidating your understanding of key Grade 11 EGD concepts in preparation for upcoming assessments. EGD is more than just drawing; it's a visual language that underpins much of the built environment and technological advancements in South Africa. From designing affordable housing solutions to planning efficient infrastructure networks, EGD skills are highly valuable. Understanding these principles well will not only improve your marks but also equip you with skills relevant to various career paths, including engineering, architecture, design, and construction.
This week’s focus is on consolidating orthographic projection, sectional views, descriptive geometry, and CAD skills. Let’s dive deeper into each concept: 2.1 Orthographic Projection: Orthographic projection is the backbone of technical drawing. It allows us to represent a 3D object using 2D views from different perspectives (typically front, top, and side). The key is that the lines of sight are perpendicular to the projection plane.
Principle: Each view shows the object as seen from a specific direction. Hidden detail is shown with dashed lines.
Application: Imagine a building. Orthographic projections would allow you to create the plans (top view), front elevation (front view), and side elevation (side view).
