Circle Time:
Show containers of soil.
Let pupils look at and touch soil safely.
Teacher says: “Soil is the ground we walk on.”

 

Main Activity:
Observe soil (brown/black, dry or wet, grainy).
Pour small water into soil to see it hold water.
Show a plant growing in soil.
Demonstrate simple planting of seeds in soil.

 

Materials Needed:
Soil samples in containers
Small spade
Water
Potted plants
Seeds
Small pots

Movement Break:
Pretend to dig soil and plant seeds.

 

Creative Time:
Draw a plant growing in soil.
Color a garden picture.

 

Language Development:
Teacher: “Soil is the ground. Plants grow in soil.”
Pupils repeat: “soil, ground, plant.”
