Learning Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:

  1. Identify lips and tongue on themselves and in pictures.
  2. Understand the uses of lips (talking, smiling, eating) and tongue (tasting, talking, swallowing).
  3. Taste safe foods to explore different flavors.
  4. Demonstrate safe and hygienic handling of mouth parts.

 

Circle Time (5–10 minutes):

Pupils touch their lips as teacher points to theirs.

Stick out tongue safely using mirrors.

Show pictures of lips and tongue.

 

Main Activity (Hands-On):

Observe lip and tongue movements.

Taste safe foods to experience sweet, sour, bitter, salty flavors (if permitted).

Discuss hygiene and cleaning lips and tongue.

 

Materials Needed:

Body parts chart

Mirrors

Pictures of lips and tongue

Safe tasting samples (sugar, lemon, etc.)

Flashcards and song charts

 

Movement Break:

Pretend to talk, smile, whistle, and taste food.

 

Creative Time:

Colour and label lips and tongue on a face diagram.

Draw faces showing expressions using lips.

 

Language Development:

Teacher: “Lips help us talk and eat. Tongue helps us taste food.”

Pupils repeat: “lips, tongue, talk, eat, taste, swallow, smile.”

 

Assessment (Observation-Based):

✔ Can the child identify lips and tongue?
✔ Can the child explain at least one use of lips and tongue?
✔ Can the child taste food and describe flavor (sweet, sour)?
✔ Does the child demonstrate proper mouth hygiene?
