SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to

  1. Discuss the simple meaning of greetings
  2. Say the appropriate greetings

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: picture books, posters/charts showing people greeting one another, pupils as learning resource

STEP 1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher uses the if you’re happy and you know it song introduces the topic and explains that greeting means a polite word of welcome and a sign of respect

EXPLANATION

She explains the various greetings there are

-      Good morning sir/ma(for older men or women)- in the morning

-      Good afternoon sir/ma(for older men/women) – in the afternoon

-      Good evening sir/ma(for older men or women) – in the evening

-      Good bye- when you are going home

-      Well done- to someone who is busy working

-      Welcome – to someone who is just returning home

STEP 3

DEMONSTRATION

She demonstrates how to bow for the boys when greeting elders and curtesy for the girls

She then asks every learner to display the greetings before the whole class

EVALUATION:    1. In the morning, how do we greet? (Good-bye, good morning)

  1. What do you tell mummy when she is busy cooking in the kitchen? (well done ma, welcome ma)
  2. When we greet, we show that we respect others. Yes/No
