SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to

  1. Give simple meaning of health
  2. Give simple meaning of safety
  3. Discuss some safety measures at home

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES: Identification, explanation, playway method, questions and answers, dramatization

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: Charts/real items such as mops, sand, bucket of water, book, fire extinguisher, blanket, dust bin with a lid, banana peels, biscuit and sweets wrappers etc

STEP 1

INTRODUCTION

The teacher uses the cleanliness song and introduces the topic and explains that health and safety at home are of great importance.

EXPLANATION

She explains that health means when we are free from all kinds of diseases

 

She also explains the safety means when we are free from harm or danger

 

She explains to the children that how we can keep safe at home and be healthy is by mopping the floor whenever water spills, dispose the refuse in a properly covered dustbin and not leaving banana or biscuit wrappers on the floor so that we won’t fall

She then pours a little water on the floor and shows the children how to mop it

 

She also picks up all the wastes like biscuit and sweets wrappers, banana peels, etc she litters deliberately on the floor and puts them in the dust-bin properly covering it thereafter.
