SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to

  1. Give the simple meaning of disease/illness
  2. Give types/examples of some diseases/illnesses common among children e.g polio, cough, kwashiorkor, chicken pox.

 

INSTRUCTIONALTECHNIQUES: Identification, explanation, playway method, questions and answers, demonstration.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: Poster/picture/chart showing signs of childhood diseases and healthy children, television clips on health, video player and tapes, radio jingles.

STEP 1

Introduction

The teacher introduces the topic with a story and explains the meaning of diseases- diseases means when the body is not functioning well

Pupils pay attention

 

STEP 2

Demonstration

Using charts/pictures/posters, the teacher shows the types and signs of childhood diseases and healthy children. Some types/examples of childhood diseases/illnesses are: chicken pox, kwashiorkor, polio, cough

Pupils listen and observe

STEP 3

Explanation

The teacher then explains to the children that disease/illness is a change in a living body that prevents it from functioning properly.

The teacher then tells the children that diseases/illnesses such as chicken pox, cough affects their health as seen in the pictures/charts/posters.

Pupils pay attention
