SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:

  1. Narrate the events surrounding Jesus’ trials before the high priest, Pilate, and Herod.
  2. Compare the gospel accounts of Jesus’ trials.
  3. Describe the events of Jesus’ crucifixion and burial.
  4. State the significance of Jesus’ death for the salvation of humanity.

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES: Explanation, Bible reading, guided video viewing, storytelling, discussion, questioning, and comparison.

THE TRIAL AND DEATH OF JESUS
A. Jesus Before Authorities
• Before the High Priest: Accused falsely, Peter denies Him (Matt. 26:36–75).
• Before Pilate: Declared innocent, crowd demands crucifixion (Matt. 27:11–31).
• Before Herod: Mocked and returned to Pilate (Lk. 23:6–12).

B. Crucifixion and Burial
• Crucified at Golgotha, mocked, died, veil torn (Matt. 27:32–56).
• Buried in a new tomb by Joseph of Arimathea (Matt. 27:57–61).

C. Significance of Jesus’ Death
• Brought salvation and forgiveness of sin.
• Fulfilled prophecy and God's redemptive plan.
• Reconciled humanity with God.
