GREEK FESTIVALS.

Major National and Cultural Festivals in Greece

  1. Easter (Πάσχα): Easter is the most significant religious holiday in Greece. It involves a week-long series of events, including church services, processions, and feasts. The objective of this festival is to commemorate the Passion, Crucifixion, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, and to strengthen communal and family bonds.
  2. Carnival (Apokries): Apokries is the Greek Carnival period leading up to Lent, filled with parties, parades, and masquerades. The objective is to celebrate before the fasting period of Lent, embracing themes of transformation and renewal.
  3. Ochi Day (October 28): This national holiday commemorates Greece’s refusal to yield to Axis powers during World War II in 1940.
