NOTE
CALL TO DISCIPLESHIP
A. Meaning of Discipleship
A disciple is a follower of Jesus who learns from Him and lives by His teachings.
B. Importance of Call to Discipleship
• It is a call to service and partnership in God’s mission.
• Jesus instructed the disciples to go and make more disciples (Matt. 28:19–20).
• Christians are called to evangelize and live righteous lives.
C. The First Disciples and Their Responses
• Peter and Andrew: left their nets immediately (Matt. 4:18–22).
• Matthew: left his tax booth and followed Jesus (Matt. 9:9–13).
• Their responses were immediate, obedient, and sacrificial.
D. Attitudes of Christians Today
• Mixed responses – some accept, some delay, some reject.
• Some prioritize personal comfort and wealth over God’s call.
E. Hindrances to Discipleship
• Matt. 8:18–22 and Lk. 9:51–63 show that excuses like family commitments, comfort, and fear of hardship can hinder discipleship.
• True discipleship demands total surrender and commitment.
