PERIOD 1:

1. Introduction:
   • Revise the previous lesson and introduce argumentative essays and debates.
   • Discuss the structure of debates (opening, body, and conclusion).
2. Features of Debate Writing:
   • Opening (clear statement of position)
   • Body (arguments, evidence, and examples)
   • Conclusion (summary and call to action)
3. Debate Topics Discussion:
   • Present common debate topics (e.g., “Should homework be banned?”) and explain how to construct arguments.

PERIOD 2:

1. Teacher Modelling/Explicit Instruction:
   • Provide an example of a well-composed argumentative essay or debate.
   • Highlight the use of strong arguments and clear evidence.
2. Class Activity:
   • Divide the class into groups and assign each group a debate topic.
   • Ask groups to prepare their arguments (opening, body, and conclusion).
