NOTE

CODIFICATION SYSTEM

A codification system is a method of organizing and categorizing information or items using codes or symbols. These systems are designed to facilitate efficient retrieval, storage, and management of data or resources.

Examples of Codification Systems include:

  1. Alphabetical Codification: This system organizes items or information alphabetically based on their names or titles.
  2. Numerical Codification: In this system, items or information are assigned numerical codes for organization. Examples ISBN (International Standard Book Number)
  3. Alphanumeric Codification: This system combines both letters and numbers to create codes for classification. Examples include vehicle identification numbers (VINs).
  4. Hierarchical Codification: In this system, items are organized in a hierarchical structure, with each level representing a different category or attribute.
  5. Color Codification: This system assigns specific colors to categories or types of items for easy identification. Examples include color-coded filing systems, maps, or charts where different colors represent different data points or categories.

Justifications for Each Codification System

  1. Alphabetical: Alphabetical codification is intuitive and easy to understand, making it suitable for organizing items based on their names or titles. It is particularly useful when users are familiar with the names of the items being organized.
  2. Numerical: Numerical codification allows for precise and systematic organization, especially when dealing with large datasets or inventories.
  3. Alphanumeric: Alphanumeric codification combines the advantages of both alphabetical and numerical systems, providing flexibility and efficiency in organizing diverse types of information
  4. Hierarchical: Hierarchical codification enables the organization of complex information in a structured manner, with multiple levels of classification. It allows for easy navigation and retrieval of information based on different levels of specificity or hierarchy.
  5. Color: Color codification provides visual cues that enhance recognition and differentiation of categories or types of items, especially in situations where quick identification is essential.

EVALUATION: 1. What is codification system

  1. Identify 5 codification systems that you know
  2. Describe the essence for each codification system mentioned in 1 above.

CLASSWORK: As in evaluation

CONCLUSION: The teacher commends the students positively
