NOTE
HANDBALL
Handball is a fast-paced team sport in which two teams of seven players (six outfield players and a goalkeeper) each compete to score goals by throwing a ball into the opposing team's goal. The game is played on a rectangular court with a goal at each end. Players use their hands to pass, dribble, and shoot the ball, aiming to outscore the opposing team within the match duration.
Basic Skills for Handball
- Passing: Accurately throwing the ball to teammates to maintain possession and create scoring opportunities.
- Dribbling: Bouncing the ball continuously while moving, similar to basketball, allowing players to navigate the court.
- Shooting: Throwing the ball with force and accuracy to score goals, which includes various techniques such as jump shots, set shots, and breakthrough shots.
- Blocking: Defensive skill to stop or deflect the opponent’s shots and passes.
- Catching: Securely receiving the ball from passes or rebounds, essential for maintaining possession.
- Positioning: Strategic placement and movement on the court to optimize both offensive and defensive plays.
- Defending: Techniques to prevent the opposing team from scoring, including marking, tackling, and intercepting passes.
Rules and Regulations in Handball
- Game Duration: A standard handball match consists of two halves, each lasting 30 minutes, with a 10-minute halftime break. If a tie persists in knockout stages, two 5-minute overtime periods may be played.
- Team Composition: Each team has seven players on the court (six outfield players and one goalkeeper) and up to seven substitutes. Substitutions can be made anytime during the game without notifying the referees.
- Scoring: A goal is scored when the entire ball crosses the goal line inside the goalposts and under the crossbar. Each goal counts as one point.
- Dribbling and Steps: Players can take up to three steps without dribbling the ball and must dribble if they wish to take more steps. Holding the ball for more than three seconds without passing, shooting, or dribbling results in a turnover.
- Goal Area: The area within a 6-meter radius around the goal is restricted to the goalkeeper. Field players can jump into this area if they release the ball before landing.
- Free Throws and Penalties: Free throws are awarded for minor infractions and are taken from the spot of the infraction or the 9-meter line if within that range.
EVALUATION: 1. Mention 5 skills in handball
- Identify 5 rules and regulations in handball
CLASSWORK: As in evaluation
CONCLUSION: The teacher commends the students positively
