NOTE

BALL GAME - VOLLEYBALL

Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. The objective is to score points by sending the ball over the net and grounding it on the opponent's court, while preventing the same effort by the opponent. The game requires players to use their hands to hit the ball, with each team allowed a maximum of three consecutive touches to return the ball to the opponent's side.

Basic Skills for Volleyball

  1. Serving: The act of putting the ball into play by hitting it over the net from behind the end line. This can be done underhand or overhand.
  2. Passing (Bumping): Using the forearms to hit and control the ball, usually to direct it to a setter.
  3. Setting: Using the fingertips to position the ball for a spike, typically the second touch.
  4. Spiking (Hitting): An aggressive, overhead hit aimed to score points by making the ball land on the opponent's court.
  5. Blocking: Defensive action by players at the net to deflect or stop the opponent's spike.
  6. Digging: A defensive move to prevent the ball from hitting the court after an opponent's attack, usually performed with a dive or quick reaction.

Rules and Regulations in Volleyball

  1. Scoring: Matches are typically played in a best-of-five sets format. Each set is played to 25 points (must win by 2 points) except for a potential fifth set, which is played to 15 points (must win by 2 points).
  2. Rotations: Teams rotate clockwise each time they win back the serve from the opponent. The player in the back-right position serves.
  3. Service Rules: The server must stand behind the end line and hit the ball over the net to start the play. The ball must clear the net and land within the opponent’s court.
  4. Three-Hit Rule: Each team is allowed a maximum of three successive contacts with the ball to return it over the net. A block does not count as one of these contacts.
  5. Net Rules: Players cannot touch the net during play. Doing so results in a point for the opponent. The ball can touch the net during a rally and remain in play.
  6. Boundary Rules: The ball is considered in if it lands on the boundary lines of the court. If it lands outside these lines, it is out.
