NOTE

STORAGE OF CLOTHING AND HOUSEOLD LINEN

Importance of proper storage of clothes

  1. to keep them neat,
  2. clean
  3. free from grease,

 

Points to note

  1. ensure clothes are clean,
  2. clothes should be dry,
  3. well ironed,
  4. drawers should be well lined
  5. lining paper to be changed frequently,
  6. clothes should be removed from storage facilities frequently to air them to ensure freshness,
  7. shelves to be labelled according to type of articles stored,
  8. socks to be kept one inside the other to prevent misplacing,
  9. clothes have to be protected from pests e.g moths

 

Types of storage facilities 

  1. built in wardrobes,
  2. chests of drawers,
  3. dressing tables,
  4. suitcases and bores,
  5. cupboards and drawers,
  6. bedsides cupboards
  7. hooks/nails fixed on a wooden bar on wall
  8. a strong carton,
  9. a long wire/string fixed from one wall to another across the room
  10. a movable wardrobe.

 

STORAGE OF CLOTHES AND HOUSEHOLD LINEN

Choice and use of storage facilities

  1. should be lockable e.g wardrobes drawers, cupboards etc,
  2. drawers to be deep enough and slide and ease,
  3. it should not be one that exposes articles to direct sunlight and dust,
  4. the rod in wardrobes should be strong to stand the weight of clothes,
  5. should be clear and dry with smooth surfaces that are easy to clean,
  6. should be strong and durable with enough storage space,
  7. hangers should be smooth, durable and other padded for delicate garments.
  8. Each garment should have its hanger if possible,
  9. similar garments should be in one section for easy removal
  10.  garments should be factored to keep shape and avoid slipping off
  11. cover those not used frequently in polythene bags,
  12. clothes should be stored in drawers, boxes, cartons after neatly folding them,

Storing dirty clothes

  1. Should not be stored together with clean ones.
  2. Should be in a laundry bucket/carton
  3. NB: the bucket can be plastic/woven and should be kept in one bedroom.

Folding

  1. Flat articles eg bed sheets, tablecloths, pillowcases, towels, tea towels and small articles eg handkerchiefs, underwears, socks, etc.
  2. Should be folded and stored in a box.drawer/carton.
  3. Items should be neatly folded so as to occupy little space.
  4. Socks should be one into another
