CONTENT: Discuss the format for writing articles, expose students to many illustrations, read and discuss a model. Discuss past questions (WAEC and NECO) on article writing. Write a well-composed article.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:
a. Identify the structure of an article.
b. Write introductions and conclusions for articles.
c. Illustrate key points effectively in articles.
d. Write a well-composed article.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES

PERIOD 1

  • Introduction:
    The teacher introduces the topic and explains the structure of an article (Introduction, Body, Conclusion).
    • Focus on Introduction: How to capture the reader's attention.
    • Discuss the importance of having a clear opinion or main idea in the article.
    • Example: “An article on climate change should start with a striking fact or a question.”

PERIOD 2

  • Illustration:
    The teacher gives examples of article writing and discusses common topics (environmental issues, social media, education, etc.).
    • Focus on the Body: How to break down the main idea into sub-topics.
    • Review a sample article and discuss how it addresses the topic, its structure, and how ideas are supported.
  • Practice:
    Learners practice writing an article on a given topic, focusing on clear illustrations and a structured approach.

EVALUATION
Learners are asked to:

  1. Identify the introduction and conclusion in a sample article.
  2. Write a short article on a given topic.

CLASS WORK
Learners are asked to write the introduction and conclusion for the topic: "The impact of social media on teenagers."

ASSIGNMENT
Learners are asked to write a full article on the topic: "The importance of physical exercise for students."

CONCLUSION
The teacher marks their books, corrects them, and provides feedback to improve writing skills.
