MACHINERY BREAKDOWN INSURANCE

Machinery breakdown

This is the unsoundness or the inability of a machinery to take order or perform its function as designed or prescribed. When a machine fails to work or function it is termed as machinery breakdown.

Machinery breakdown insurance

This is an insurance that offers financial protection to an insured for sudden and physical loss or damage to mechanical and electrical appliances while in operation.  It protects companies in the manufacturing industries against heavy loss or expense that leads to repairs of machinery.  It covers all types of industrial equipment.

SCOPE OF MACHINERY BREAKDOWN INSURANCE 

  1. Defective or accidental loss of lubrication
  2. Loosening of nuts
  3. Excessive speed
  4. Structure defects
  5. Faulty design at workshop
  6. Obstructions of entry of foreign bodies
  7. Impact collision
  8. Maladjustment
  9. Short circuit disruption

Causes of machinery breakdown 

  1. Over utilization of the machine
  2. Lack of maintenance or over handling of the machinery
  3. Lack of skills or experts hands in handling the machine

Control of machinery breakdown 

  1. Machines should not be over utilized; hours and time of usage must be spelt out and complied
  2. The maintenance or over handling of machine must be done at a regular interval.
  3. Skilled or an expert hand should be employed to handle the machine
