PERIOD 1 AND 2: Introduction to Expository Essays and Explaining a Process
INTRODUCTION
The teacher introduces expository essays and explains their purpose: to inform or explain. The teacher presents the process of writing an expository essay and discusses its features: introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. The teacher will read a model expository essay on "How to Prepare a Favorite Meal" and highlight the structure.
Learners observe and participate in the discussion.

  1. Features of Expository Essays:
    • Introduction: Includes a clear thesis statement outlining the process.
    • Body Paragraphs: Each paragraph explains a step in the process.
    • Conclusion: Summarizes the process and may offer further thoughts or tips.
  2. Example Topic: "How to Prepare a Favorite Meal"
    The teacher will use a specific recipe, e.g., "How to Make Jollof Rice," to show how an expository essay can explain a process.
    • Introduction: Briefly introduce the meal and its importance or popularity.
    • Body Paragraphs: Each paragraph describes a step in preparing the meal, using transition words like "first," "next," and "finally."
    • Conclusion: Summarizes the entire process and suggests tips or alternatives.
