ELIJAH AT MOUNT CARMEL
A. The Contest (1 Kings 18:20–46)
• Elijah challenged 450 prophets of Baal to a contest on Mount Carmel.
• Each side was to call on their god to send fire from heaven.
• Baal did not answer, but God answered Elijah by sending fire.
• The people saw the power of God and declared Him the true God.
B. Why Baal Failed
• Baal is not a living god.
• He could not hear or respond to the prophets.
C. God’s Supremacy Over Dagon (1 Samuel 5:1–12)
• The Philistines captured the Ark of God and placed it in Dagon’s temple.
• Dagon fell before the Ark and broke into pieces.
• The Philistines suffered afflictions until they returned the Ark.
D. Gods Worshipped in Local Areas
• Students describe the traditional gods or idols in their communities.
E. Lessons from the Contest and the Ark
• Only the true God answers prayers.
• God is supreme over all false gods and idols.
• Believers must trust in God alone.
