NOTE

WAYS OF PREVENTING DRUG ABUSE

  1. Right and adequate parental upbringing
  2. Parents should model the right behaviours to their children to set an

example for them

  1. A wide-spread nationwide campaign should be instituted against every

form of drug abuse

  1. The media should promote activities that educate and enlighten the

populace about the dangers of drug abuse

  1. The energy of the youth should be converted to other exciting and

productive tasks such as sports, music etc

  1. Drug abuse(its meaning, symptoms, cause, effects and prevention)

should be added to the curriculum

  1. The fight against drug abuse should be intensified and punishment stiffer

 

DRUG LAWS IN NIGERIA

  1. Tobacco smoking decree(1990)- this prohibits the smoking of tobacco in

public places. It also mandates tobacco producing companies to put

warnings on their adverts “tobacco users are liable to die young”

  1. Indian hemp decree and amendment(1966, 1984)- anyone caught

 cultivating or importing cannabis will face 21 years imprisonment while

those smoking and in possession of it will face 4 years imprisonment
