THE SUPREMACY OF GOD

  • Definition of Supremacy:
Supremacy refers to God's ultimate authority and power, acknowledging that no one and nothing can challenge His rule over creation and history.
  • Elijah’s Pronouncement of Drought:
    • I Kings 17:1-7: Elijah, as a prophet of God, pronounced a period of drought in Israel due to King Ahab's idolatry and sinfulness. The drought was a divine judgment.
    • I Kings 18:1-19: Elijah confronts Ahab and the prophets of Baal, showing God's supremacy over idols. This is followed by the dramatic challenge on Mount Carmel, where Elijah calls down fire from heaven to prove God’s power.
  • Obadiah’s Courage:
    • I Kings 18:3-16: While Ahab and Jezebel sought to destroy God’s prophets, Obadiah, the king’s servant, hid 100 prophets in caves, protecting them from destruction.
    • Both Elijah and Obadiah displayed great courage in standing up for God during a time of religious persecution and apostasy.
  • Religious Tension in Nigeria:
    • Identify current areas of religious tension in Nigeria, such as interfaith conflicts, religious extremism, and persecution of Christians. Discuss the importance of standing firm in faith despite these tensions.
    • Discuss how the courage of Elijah and Obadiah can inspire students to confront challenges in their own religious journey.
