NOTE
SPORTS INJURIES
Sports injuries refer to the injuries that occur during sports activities or exercise. They can result from overuse, improper technique, inadequate warm-up, or accidents during play. Common sports injuries include:
- Sprains and strains: Sprains occur when ligaments (bands of tissue connecting bones) are stretched or torn, while strains involve overstretched or torn muscles or tendons.
- Fractures: These are broken bones, often caused by falls or direct impact.
- Dislocations: A dislocation happens when a bone is forced out of its normal position in a joint.
- Concussions: These are a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a blow to the head, resulting in temporary loss of brain function.
- ACL injuries: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) can be injured or torn, often during sports that involve sudden changes in direction, such as basketball, soccer, or skiing.
- Tendinitis: This is an inflammation of a tendon, usually caused by overuse.
Causes of sport injuries
Sport injuries can occur due to various factors, including:
- Overuse: Repetitive movements or excessive training without adequate rest can lead to overuse injuries, such as stress fractures, tendonitis, or muscle strains.
- Poor Technique: Incorrect form or technique while performing sports activities can increase the risk of injury, especially in high-impact or contact sports.
- Inadequate Warm-up or Cool-down: Failing to properly warm up muscles before physical activity or cool them down afterward can increase the likelihood of injury.
- Muscle Imbalances: Weakness or imbalance in muscle strength can predispose athletes to injuries, as certain muscles may be overcompensating for others.
- Insufficient Conditioning: Inadequate physical conditioning, including poor flexibility, strength, or endurance, can make athletes more susceptible to injuries during sports participation.
- Equipment Issues: Improperly fitted or maintained equipment, such as shoes, helmets, or protective gear, can contribute to injuries or fail to provide adequate support or protection.
EVALUATION: 1. What is sport injuries
- Identify 5 common sport injuries
- Mention 5 causes of sport injuries.
