SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Learners should be able to:
a. Identify the subject and predicate in a sentence.
b. Convert sentences from active to passive form and vice versa.
c. Construct sentences in both active and passive voice.

SET INDUCTION: The teacher asks learners to identify sentences where the subject performs an action (active) and where the action is performed on the subject (passive).

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES:
PERIOD 1 AND 2: Active and Passive Verbs

PRESENTATION

INTRODUCTION            

The teacher introduces the concept of active and passive voice by providing examples: "The teacher teaches the class" (active) and "The class is taught by the teacher" (passive). 

* Learners observe, learn, and ask questions.

 

EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION / TEACHER MODELLING    

The teacher explains the structure of active and passive sentences. She demonstrates converting sentences from active to passive and vice versa.     

* Learners observe and take notes. They participate by asking for more examples.

 

PRACTICE                      

The teacher asks learners to convert the following sentences into passive voice: "The dog bit the man," "She wrote the letter," "They built the house."

* Learners practice by converting sentences from active to passive.

 

CLASS-WORK               

The teacher asks learners to identify the subject and predicate in the following sentences:

"She sings a song."

"The book was read by Mary."                                         

* Learners identify the subject and predicate in the sentences.

 

ASSIGNMENT                

  1. Convert 5 active voice sentences into passive voice and vice versa.
  2. Create 5 original sentences in both active and passive forms.

* Learners complete the assignment at home.

 

CONCLUSION                

The teacher marks learners' books, corrects mistakes, and commends learners for their effort.      

Learners review corrections and ask questions for clarity.
