NOTE

STATE OF EMERGENCY

If a government or other authority declares a state of emergency in an

area, it introduces special measures such as increased powers for the

police or army, usually because of civil disorder or because of a

natural disaster such as an earthquake

 

What happens during a state of emergency

  1. Restriction of movements during certain hours of the day
  2. The principles of the rule of law may be ignored
  3. There can be a partial/temporal suspension of the constitution
  4. Some arrests are carried out without a warrant
  5. Human rights may be violated in the interest of security
  6. There may be restriction of the freedom of the press and expression
  7. It can lead to heavy military presence and involvement in the polity
