NOTE

FIRST AID

First aid refers to the immediate care given to a person who is injured or suddenly becomes ill. It is usually performed by a layperson (someone who is not a medical professional) until professional medical help arrives. The primary goal of first aid is to preserve life, prevent further harm, and promote recovery.

Benefits of first aid treatment

First aid treatment provides several benefits:

  1. Prevents Further Injury: Immediate first aid can prevent minor injuries from escalating into more serious conditions or complications.
  2. Promotes Recovery: Proper first aid techniques can facilitate faster recovery by stabilizing the injured person's condition and reducing the risk of complications.
  3. Reduces Pain and Discomfort: Providing first aid can alleviate pain and discomfort for the injured person, promoting their comfort and well-being.
  4. Preserves Life: In emergency situations, prompt first aid can be life-saving, especially in cases of cardiac arrest, choking, severe bleeding, or respiratory distress.
  5. Prevents Infection: Cleaning and dressing wounds as part of first aid helps prevent infection, reducing the risk of further complications.
  6. Provides Emotional Support: Offering first aid reassures the injured person and provides emotional support, reducing anxiety and promoting a sense of security.

First Aid Box

A first aid box is a container or kit that contains essential medical supplies and equipment for administering basic first aid. These kits are typically kept in homes, workplaces, schools, vehicles, and outdoor settings to provide immediate assistance in case of injury or medical emergency. A well-stocked first aid box usually includes items such as:

  1. Adhesive bandages (various sizes)
  2. Sterile gauze pads and adhesive tape
  3. Antiseptic wipes or solution
  4. Disposable gloves
  5. Scissors and tweezers
  6. CPR mask or face shield
  7. Triangular bandages
  8. Elastic bandages
  9. Instant cold packs
  10. Antihistamine tablets (for allergic reactions)
  11. Pain relievers (e.g., acetaminophen, ibuprofen)
  12. Thermometer
  13. First aid manual or instructions
