ADAPTATION OF BASIC BLOCK FOR COSTUME DESIGNING III

Pattern Drafting

Pattern drafting is the process of creating a flat pattern from body measurements or a basic block pattern. This pattern serves as the template for cutting and assembling fabric pieces to construct garments. It involves drawing precise shapes and lines on paper to create each section of a garment, ensuring that they fit together perfectly and match the intended design.

Tools and Equipment for Pattern Drafting

  1. Measuring Tools:

   - Tape Measure: Flexible tape used for taking body measurements.

   - Ruler: For drawing straight lines and measuring short distances.

   - Curve Ruler: Also known as a French curve, used for drawing smooth curves such as armholes and necklines.

   - L-square or Tailor's Square: For ensuring right angles and straight lines.

  1. Drawing Tools:

   - Pencils and Erasers: For marking and making corrections on pattern paper.

   - Pattern Paper: Large sheets of paper for drafting patterns. Pattern paper often has a grid to help with accuracy.

  1. Cutting Tools:

   - Scissors: Sharp scissors for cutting paper and fabric.

   - Rotary Cutter: Useful for cutting through multiple layers of fabric or paper.

Identifying Parts of the Body to Be Measured

Accurate measurements are essential for creating well-fitting patterns. The body measurements include:

  1. Bust/Chest: Measure around the fullest part of the bust/chest.
  2. Waist: Measure around the natural waistline, which is typically the narrowest part of the torso.
  3. Hips: Measure around the fullest part of the hips, usually about 7-9 inches below the waist.
  4. Shoulder Width: Measure from the tip of one shoulder across the back to the tip of the other shoulder.
  5. Back Waist Length: Measure from the nape of the neck to the natural waistline.
  6. Arm Length: Measure from the shoulder tip down to the wrist.
  7. Neck Circumference: Measure around the base of the neck.
  8. Inseam: Measure from the crotch along the inside of the leg to the desired length.

EVALUATION: 1.  What is pattern drafting?

  1. Mention 5 tools and equipments for pattern drafting
  2. Identify 6 parts of the body to be measured

CLASSWORK: As in evaluation

CONCLUSION: The teacher commends the students positively
