STEERING SYSTEM II
Adjustment of steering unit
Removing and replacing a steering unit involves several steps and can be a complex task. Below is a general outline:
- Disconnect the Battery: Ensure the vehicle's battery is disconnected to prevent accidental airbag deployment or electrical issues.
- Remove the Steering Wheel: Use appropriate tools to remove the center cover of the steering wheel, then the retaining nut. Use a steering wheel puller to detach the wheel from the column.
- Access the Steering Column: Remove any panels or covers around the steering column to access the steering unit.
- Disconnect Components: Disconnect wiring harnesses, linkages, and any other components connected to the steering unit.
- Remove Mounting Bolts: Loosen and remove any mounting bolts or brackets securing the steering unit to the vehicle frame or column.
- Remove the Steering Unit: Carefully maneuver and remove the steering unit from its position in the vehicle. Be mindful of any attached wires or hoses.
- Install the New Steering Unit: Position the new steering unit in place, ensuring it aligns correctly with the mounting points.
- Secure Mounting Bolts: Tighten the mounting bolts or brackets to secure the new steering unit in place.
- Reconnect Components: Reconnect wiring harnesses, linkages, and any other components that were disconnected.
- Replace the Steering Wheel: Align the steering wheel on the column and tighten the retaining nut. Replace the center cover.
- Reconnect the Battery: Reconnect the vehicle's battery.
- Test the Steering: Start the vehicle and test the steering to ensure it operates smoothly and without any issues.
